David Merrifield – April 10, 2016:
I bought this guitar when visiting New Zealand, as I missed playing my usual acoustic back in the UK. All I wanted was a cheap and cheerful guitar to get me through a few weeks, so I was surprised to find that the Aria AD-18 actually played rather well. I put some fresh custom light strings on it as soon as I got it, as the standard strings supplied were tougher than I like. The action and set-up are very good, and the tone is rich and wholesome! I was quite prepared to leave this guitar in NZ when I head back around the world, but I now think it would be worth trying to get back as part of my baggage allowance. The only gripes I have concern some poor finishing, with a couple of bad areas of application of the thick blue lacquer near the heel, and the scratch plate’s radius doesn’t follow the lines of the hole’s decorative surround. Clumsy construction, really, but in no way does this alter the guitar’s playability, and for the price I can’t complain. Two more days then it’s back to the UK. The case I’ve just bought cost as much as the guitar!
Not that bad
